Hagelstam & Co taidehuutokauppatoiminta sai alkunsa vuonna 1979 Wenzel Hagelstamin intohimosta antiikki- ja keräilyesineisiin. Silloinen W. Hagelstamin Huutokaupat tuli pian tunnetuksi koko Suomessa. Wenzelin henkilökohtaisena visiona oli luoda persoonallinen taiteen ja antiikin kauppapaikka.
Huutokauppatoiminta jatkoi tasaisesti kasvuaan ja vuonna 1986, jolloin osoite Bulevardi 9 oli monelle yhtä kuin taidehuutokauppa, nimeksi vaihdettiin Bulevardin Huutokaupat. Wenzel Hagelstam oli edelleen firman johtaja ja henkilöstömäärä kasvoi vakaasti.
Vuonna 1991 nimi muutettiin muotoon Hagelstamin Huutokaupat ja samoihin aikoihin kansainvälinen taide, varsinkin venäläinen, alkoivat näkyä huutokaupoissa. Mikael Schnitt nimitettiin toimitusjohtajaksi ja Wenzel Hagelstam jatkoi hallituksen puheenjohtajana.
Taidekauppa kehittyi koko ajan eteenpäin ja mm. erikoishuutokaupat syntyivät, ollen tänäkin päivänä osa huutokauppatoimintaa (aihealueina esim. Venäjä, valokuvat ja meriaiheet).
Kymmenen vuotta myöhemmin, vuonna 2001, perustettiin Hagelstamin sivuyksikkö Apollo Auctions, joka tiloissaan Helsingin Tehtaankadulla toteuttaa edullisemman taiteen kuukausihuutokauppoja Hagelstamin Huutokauppojen keskittyessä Bulevardilla harvalukuisempiin kansainvälisiin laatuhuutokauppoihin.
Vuonna 2013 Hagelstamin Huutokaupat ja Apollo Auctions liitettiin yhteen, lanseeraten samalla uusi nimi Hagelstam & Co, jonka alle siirrettiin kaikki yrityksen toiminnot.
Tänä päivänä Hagelstam & Co tarjoaa asiantuntijapalvelua suurenmoisen muotoilun, arvokkaan antiikin ja klassisen ja modernin taiteen keskellä. Kauttamme liikkuu vuosittain yli 10 000 esinettä ja vuosiliikevaihto on n. 5 MEUR. Yritys työllistää tällä hetkellä 15 alan asiantuntijaa. Hagelstam & Co on johtava suomalainen asiantuntija, sekä taiteen että designin puolella. Toimitusjohtajana toimii Mia Okko-Koskinen.
Tulevaisuus näyttää Hagelstam & Co:lle erittäin mielenkiintoiselta. Syksyllä 2013 aloittanut Hagelstam 2nd School tarjoaa uusia kokemuksia taiteesta ja taidekaupasta yleisöluentokurssien muodossa.
